Dekalb County Teacher of the Month - April 2021

It is our honor to announce Ms. Karen Prestwood, teacher at Moon Lake Elementary, as our April 2021 Teacher of the Month for the DeKalb County area, in partnership with The Southern Torch.
Ms. Prestwood became a teacher after being inspired as a student by her former educators. The most rewarding part of her job is seeing students learn, grow, and meet new challenges. She makes learning fun by incorporating different activities into daily lessons. Ms. Prestwood states that the biggest challenge teachers face today is what children face outside of the classroom - adjusting to current events, adding, the entire community can come together and help support students through these challenges. Ms. Prestwood has taught 28 years at Moon Lake Elementary. Moon Lake is closing at the end of the school year. Ms. Prestwood expresses that she will miss the students, coworkers, and school administration, explaining that is the end of an era.
We are sure the Moon Lake organization will miss you too, Ms. Prestwood. Congratulations again, and thank you for all you have done for the future of our communities!
